Questions to Councillor Tate
a) Why is the observed source of the mud being ignored and denied? Is there something we should know about?
b) Why is the focus of the investigation being shifted away from the reported and obvious source to ‘tidal movement downstream’ (towards the Broadwater) as you stated in your reply? Is there something you should be telling the people of the Gold Coast?
c) Will the investigation by your Environmental/Development Compliance Team focus on the observed and reported source?
d) Catchment Management, during their initial onsite inspection, were clearly concerned at learning of and seeing the mud source and increasing damage. Why Councillor, did they not follow up with their stated and intended actions to
(i) conduct soil sampling at the source and
(ii) continue inspections by kayak?
Were they instructed not to?
e) Why, three weeks after their inspection did they issue a report, stating that this was a natural event and no further action would be taken? It has been confirmed that serious damage was happening at that time.
– Was someone within Council attempting to hide something?
– Were these people instructed to frame that response and if so by whom and why?
– Why was no attempt made to mitigate the damage at that time?
f) Why have your Councillors with the exception of Cr. Young, consistently refused to respond or take effective action in an attempt to mitigate the damage?
g) Did your Council Officers or any Councillor bring this issue to your attention before my recent approach to you?
We need answers Councillor, we have a right to know and await your reply.

Unless you are a developer, forget getting a sensible answer. Smoke and mirrors is all you will get. And a CCC who has no teeth or power to protect the Queensland communities. Only easy pickings with minimal impact are looked into. Not the hard ones with the most destructive powers
