Coombabah Wetlands, Lake and Creek protected by the RAMSAR international convention for significant wetlands since 1993. Is part of the Migratory Bird Agreements with China and Japan, is part of the Morton Bay Marine Park and is classified a Wetland of International Importance. MISSION ACCOMPLISHED: City Wide Sewage Contaminated Waterways, Residential Canals and Wetlands Finally On-Track For Recovery thanks to the professional leadership of Dept of Environment and Science Wetlands team.
NOTE: The issue of suspected dumping of dredge spoil, observed and recorded by local residents has yet to be resolved.
Sadly, three months after this video was released effective tidal flow to the creek and lake was blocked at all but high tide. The cause, observed by residents on the opposite bank was large volumes of black mud suspected to be dredge spoil from an adjoining residential/lakes estate. GC Council refused to take effective action to mitigate damage. The designated fish habitat, the largest supplier of fish, crab and prawns to the SE Moreton Bay fishery is also destroyed.
Fabulous film. Very professional. Go get ’em.
Brilliant work. We must show this at the next PP Progress Association meeting
I will be at the PPPA AGM on Tuesday at 7pm. Paradise Point Community Hall.
Have you contacted this legal organisation that will provide free phone advice, or undertake legal action where necessary? https://www.edoqld.org.au
This is such a shame and is another reason to get as many as possible signatures for this petition. A dedicated minister and portfolio for natural habitats is needed so that one person or one community does not have to fight to be heard. This situation needs to be addressed Stewart Brooker, Mona Hecke 2020https://www.parliament.qld.gov.au/work-of-assembly/petitions/petition-details?id=3188
I’m fully along with environmental and agricultural sustenance and development!
Great job…Im no environmental expert but this video certainly portrays errosion and environmental concerns…I kayak a bit and as well as the silt and orange soil I have noticed a increase in regard to a worm like white pest that is inhabiting our rivers…At the Bridge at the Estuary the worm like pest has taken over and has destroyed the natural weeds that the fish need.
I dont know too much about it..but perhaps next time one of the experts is down this way they could check it out..?
This is important documentation Steve and disturbing there has been no move by any official avenue. With regards to bank nourishment and restoration is it possible for local residents to team up and work on those solutions? Maybe if the government sees local action they might respond with action. As you know what needs to be done, perhaps you could promote local action that we could attend. Another avenue is Griffith Uni as they have studies, staff and students focusing on the Coombabah Wetlands and maybe gaining support from other groups using the area such as Beaches to Bushland Landcare group as promoted in the Naturally GC booklet. The whole area is used by many people as well as residents to build numbers.
As a long term resident of Coombabah I fully support your observations. The building of the rock wall under the bridge to Hope Island has had a devastating effect on the creek.
Thank you both for your concern. Just to let you know that since January this year I have brought the details to the attention of the following: Ramsar Australia.

Mark Furner, Qld Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries.
David Crisafulli, State Member for Broadwater (Shadow Minister for Environment and GBR).

That pretty much covers the “Official” side of things.
It’s a no brainer – it MUST be preserved- write to all governing bodies!
Well presented video. A real concern that this beautiful lake is silting up.
