Chinese theme park giant Songcheng is behind the new ‘Australian Legends’ theme park. China’s Ministry of Culture has listed a Chinese developer’s planned Gold Coast theme park as a “key cultural trade and investment project” that is linked to the country’s ambitious Belt and Road investment plan.
“The Australian Government may not want to sign up to the (BRI) initiative as a program but there’s nothing to stop particular projects in Australia signing up on their own account,” China expert John Fitzgerald from Swinburne University said. Gold Coast Mayor Tom Tate welcomed China’s decision to list the project. “We’re delighted the Chinese Government has included this project on their Belt and Road list,” Mr. Tate said in a statement.
