RAW SEWAGE INUNDATION from the failure of 91 Sewage Pump Stations.
Folks, I visited the affected streets of Poinsettia and Jasmine Ave this morning with Mona Hecke the Mayoral candidate. She was horrified and distressed at what she witnessed. Homes ripped apart, furniture still on the street verge, skip bins lining the street and raw sewage still laying in gutters ONE WEEK after the event!
We spoke with a number of residents, they are totally shattered. One elderly lady with tears in her eyes, stated that her insurance didn’t cover her for this type of inundation as she pointed to the toxic black mould growing on the now bare concrete floor of a rear bedroom. She knows that the mould is dangerous but stated that she is not well and this may be the thing that kills her.
Council is increasingly denying any liability but for short-term accommodation until their contractors dry out the homes. What they haven’t stated is that these homes may never be safe due to the heavy concentration of raw sewage seeping into concrete floors and timber frames. The council truly needs to consider condemning these homes, bulldozing them and replacing them with new ones.
This is a human catastrophe and only a sign of what is to come as a result of this Council’s mismanagement of critical infrastructure.
Council CEO, Mayor Tate, Councillors Owen-Jones (Div 2) and Caldwell, YOU are responsible…Have you no conscience, empathy or integrity? STAND DOWN!

Yes ! Stand down TATE ! You are not getting my vote in the next elections????????????????????????????????????????????
This is disgusting, we had a problem in Labrador with flooding in December, 2019, still fighting GCCC with drains, not as bad as this s**t fight, I really feel for those poor residents..
So glad you took Mona to see this distater Steve…I hope her call to answers is heard and the council feels the pressure to speak up and compensate those affected and not hide behind untruths
Tom Forbes would be interested in this. ..excellent journalist at the Coast. Has anyone contacted him?
After seeing Mona’s video today I called Council and spoke to a staff lady in the Sewage department. She knew nothing about Hollywell and when I insisted she called up some info ..it was a notification sent to all staff members on the 14th Feb, the day after the deluge ..it stated that 91 pump stations overflowed. When i asked for more info i.e. where this sewage spilled or where these pump stations are she could not tell me. When i asked why the public were never advised or why signs were not put up…her response Council did not have enough time. I told her this was not an adequate answer and she went to speak to a senior officer. Came back and said as it is a technical problem I need to write to them voicing my concern. So now we know why we need a new Council and a new Mayor.
This is so bad.
And they keep allowing hundreds of units to be built, without any increased infrastructure, they really don’t care.Vote them out at next election!!!! They have been on the gravy train far too long. Bye, bye.
It is putrid and pathetic to think we, the residents of Poinsettia Ave, have to live in these conditions – WE ARE NOT IN A THIRD WORLD COUNTRY

You need to get the tv crews back and do follow up stories on what has been, and mainly hasn’t been done since this all started..
Have any of the councillor’s been to visit?,
More pressure needs to be put on them…
Im feeling so heartbroken for all these residents,
Has the elderly lady got somewhere to stay?
