[With regard to the attached image]… “This is what all houses in our street got. Council contractors worked tirelessly Thursday – Saturday now we are dealing with our insurance as they said we need further work. They have ripped up all flooring, skirting, walls etc and now waiting on claims with them and council”.
“We haven’t been able live there since Thursday when this occurred so whilst devastated just need to focus at the moment on ensuring we get back home with as little out of pocket expenses as possible. Our neighbour had his pool tested and it recorded faecal matter. Another neighbour is living in a caravan at the front of their home”.
“We were inundated on Thursday during the weather event. Council and our insurer advised that it was category 3 contaminated water and deemed our home unliveable. We have 2 young children age 5 and 18 months”.
“Today is not a good day our animals are sick from this contamination. We were at emery vets last night and now at p point vets, we are moving today, finally found accommodation”.
“We are deemed category 3”.
“I’m sure my stomach bug is from this!”
“Photo from our home looking down Jasmine towards the Broadway where that sewerage is going into. Lots of people put there boats in there & families go to picnic!”
“GCCC hasn’t done one thing to help us.. other than a text stating they have no liability, but to offer us accommodation.. our animals have been sick from the contaminated water!! Absolutely disgusting!”
“Would be good to test the sample to see what nasties we’re being exposed to. My dog also got sick from swimming in the broadwater”.
“It looks like diluted faeces…And horrid. A resident in the street said they’ve never seen anything like in the street before”.
“I’ve been speaking to my girlfriend who’s husband used to work at the sewerage treatment plant. He explained to her why that raw sewerage doesn’t smell, they put a bacteria into it to stop the smell. He said it’s a catastrophic incident that as you said due to poor maintenance. The sewage manhole covers lifted and poured raw sewerage into our systems”.
“It’s criminal what the council is not doing or saying, because it doesn’t smell. They, meaning the council workers, were telling 2 residents plus myself that it was fungus not faecal matter, yet now knowing that bacteria is injected for it to not smell, makes sense why it looks like it yet no smell”.
On the broader aspects of recreational water contamination “I put 2 and 2 together…I have swum twice only this year in the Broadwater. Each time I was dodgy both ends the day after. I felt so sick the last time that I could not eat. I lost 20Kgs. I have not gone back near the water. When will it be safe again?”
So, Mayor Tate, Mr. CEO, Councillors Caldwell (Div 3) and Owen-Jones (Div 2), do you still maintain that this mess and human suffering is the result of surface water? Your lack of conscience, empathy and integrity disgusts me.

To say they hold “no liability” is a lie!! The councils are directly responsible for the water quality in their areas.
They have a duty of care to take reasonable measures to ensure water safety and by reasonable, I mean testing the quality post event and warnings issued. It is only after the warnings ( if issued) can the council be said to have acted reasonably and responsibly.
If it is safe as they say..
get them to go for a swim..it shouldn’t be a problem.
Would like to see if Cameron and his family swim in the water. Useless council!!!
Same mob that allowed black swan lake to be filled in time of drought ,absolute idiots .
A resident comment just received reflecting on the broader scale of this ongoing public health menace”…”I put 2 and 2 together…I have swum twice only this year in the Broadwater. Each time I was dodgy both ends the day after. I felt so sick the last time that I could not eat. I lost 20 Kgs. I have not gone back near the water. When will it be safe again?”
Useless bloody idiotic councils.. All out for what they can get! ????????
