[Comment] It appears that Councillors encouraged officers to try cheap options over the past eight years [the term of the current council] to enable them to rip funds out of this budget to fund their own preferred, frivolous projects while raw sewage from inadequate infrastructure spilled into our storm water and waterways exposing residents to a high risk of contracting potentially fatal faecal related illnesses. This is unforgivable. However, having working closely with with GCC Waste and Water over the past several weeks, I truly believe that they have been forced by council hierarchy to operate on a restricted budget.
Cr. Owen-Jones’ further bungled contribution to the $150 million project discussion…[Quote] “I can’t remember a bigger contract” …REALLY BILL?? Remember this one?… $400 million!!

[Comment] You really are a scallywag Bill. Don’t you people dare attempt to claim leadership with this project. You know that the real reason Council decided quickly is because you, Cr Cameron Caldwell other Councillors have knowingly exposed residents, our children and international tourists to the high risks of contaminated recreational water and possibly seafood for years! I suggest that the real reason the Council decided quickly was to dodge a bullet (I’m not guilty your honour, look what we just approved!). I suggest that with all the recent exposure the local tourism body, government health and others have put the screws on. It also appears that your mates in this area Cr. Kristyn Boulton (Div 4), Cr. Cameron Caldwell (Div 3) also Chair of the Economy Planning and Environment Committee and responsible for a lot of this mess, have once again slithered under their log and hung you out to dry.
Cr. Owen-Jones’ (Div 2) final bungled contribution to the discussion [Quote] “It’s not sexy but it’s an important capital works infrastructure project that has to be done to accommodate growth over the next 20 years.”
“SEXY” Bill? I shouldn’t have to remind you that amongst the fundamental responsibilities of local councils are “Sewage and Recycled Water, Rubbish Collection, Local Roads and Pet Control” (Refer Parliamentary Education Office)…None of which are “SEXY” Bill, but that’s what you signed up for!
Local councils are NOT an entrepreneurial platform or casino where big egos and air-heads gamble and waste other people’s money, ratepayers money. Local Councils are about providing residents with basic needs and delivering those promptly and professionally.
I can’t believe that you and others with the same limited capacity have been driving this runaway train for the past 8 years…MARCH 28 COUNCIL ELECTIONS ARE FAST APPROACHING.
